ITI Cymru Wales is a geographical network of the UK Institute of Translation and Interpreting, the professional association for practising translators, interpreters and language services businesses. Its aim to support professional translators and interpreters living in Wales or with a connection to Wales.
2. WHAT TYPE OF INFORMATION IS COLLECTED & WHY
We collect, store and use personal data for the purposes of processing your enquiries, administering your membership of the network and communicating with you regarding events which we and our partner organisations organise. We do not pass your personal data on to third parties without your permission.
3. LEGAL BASIS
We hold data on our network members for legitimate interests and when these interests do not override members’ rights or we have consent to do so, pursuant to Article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR.
4. WHICH PERSONAL DATA IS COLLECTED
Personal data collected includes your name, telephone number, address, email address, gender, qualifications, working languages and ITI membership grade.
5. HOW LONG WE KEEP YOUR PERSONAL DATA
Data relating to fully paid-up members will be retained throughout the membership period, or for the length of time stipulated to comply with legal obligations.
Data relating to membership enquiries will be retained for up to one year. All email communications received by members of the committee will be deleted after seven years.
Data relating to lapsed or terminated memberships will be deleted upon termination of the membership.
6. SHARING YOUR PERSONAL DATA
We do not use your personal data for marketing purposes. Your information will also be accessible to other members of the network.
7. YOUR RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS
We take all precautionary steps to guarantee the security, integrity and confidentiality of personal data in compliance with the GDPR, in relation to the processing of personal data and the free movement of such data.
You are entitled to access, rectify, erase or restrict the personal data that we hold about you, in accordance with the above-mentioned EU regulation. If you are not satisfied with the response, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the supervisory body in UK. Please note that ITI Cymru Wales is not registered as a data controller with the ICO on the grounds that it is a not-for-profit organisation that qualifies for exemption.

We take all possible precautionary measures to guarantee that your personal data is safeguarded.
Updates to computers and devices: The equipment used for storing and processing personal data is updated as frequently as possible.
Malware: Anti-virus software is installed on the equipment used for storing and processing personal data, to prevent the theft or destruction of this information. This anti-virus software is regularly updated.
Firewall: Firewalls are in place on all devices used for storing or processing personal data, to avoid remote unlawful third-party access.
Back-up: Personal data is backed up to a secure cloud service, so that personal data can be recovered in the event of loss or damage.
Technical measures: All electronic systems used for storing or processing personal information are password protected.
